MacIntyre fires 65 to close on Jarvis at Alfred Dunhill Links
Robert MacIntyre moved within three shots of the lead at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship after a second-round 65 at Kingsbarns. The defending champion reached eight under par and a share of ninth place, according to BBC Sport, with South Africa's Casey Jarvis leading the tournament at 11 under after two rounds.
Watch the highlights:
MacIntyre had started the day at one under following his opening round at Carnoustie. He made four birdies on the front nine at Kingsbarns, then recovered from a dropped shot at the 11th with four more birdies over the next five holes. That left the Scot with eight birdies and one bogey in a seven-under round.
Speaking to BBC Scotland, MacIntyre credited the favourable weather and said he had concentrated on taking advantage of the holes where he expected scoring opportunities. He described the final hole as the only one where the wind had strengthened. The bogey briefly frustrated him, but he said it also prompted a response that included three consecutive birdies. His next round is at St Andrews on Saturday.
Jarvis held a one-shot advantage over Matthew Jordan, M. J. Daffue and Rocco Repetto Taylor, all on 10 under. Repetto Taylor recorded a 64 at Kingsbarns, which BBC Sport reported was the lowest round of the day. Sam Bairstow stood at nine under, one stroke ahead of a group that included MacIntyre, Michael Stewart, Brooks Koepka and Thomas Detry.
Stewart, the surprise leader after the opening round, returned a 71 at Kingsbarns to finish alongside his fellow Scot on eight under. MacIntyre praised Stewart's short game and expressed hope that the player ranked 979th in the world could secure a full-time place on the DP World Tour. Koepka joined them after a 67, while Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick were both at six under.
There were contrasting results for Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter in their first DP World Tour appearances in almost four years. Westwood's 69 at Kingsbarns took him to four under for the championship. Poulter took 41 shots over his opening nine holes at Carnoustie and finished with a 76, leaving him at four over after two rounds.
