Luka Vuskovic Equaliser Rescues Brighton Draw Against Leeds
Luka Vuskovic headed a late equaliser as Brighton recovered to draw 1-1 with Leeds United at the Amex Stadium, preserving the visitors’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season. The Guardian reported that Leeds controlled much of the contest but failed to turn their pressure and chances into a decisive lead.
Watch the highlights:
Jayden Bogle put Leeds ahead early, tapping in from close range after Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen parried Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header and Ao Tanaka squared the loose ball across goal. The strike was Leeds’ first in nine away visits to Brighton, a run stretching back to November 2012.
Leeds had opportunities to extend their advantage before halftime. Calvert-Lewin rounded Verbruggen after being released by a misplaced Brighton pass, but Lewis Dunk recovered to clear his shot near the goal line. Tanaka then struck the crossbar from the resulting corner, leaving Brighton only one goal behind despite the visitors’ greater threat.
The pattern continued after the interval. Anton Stach went close from short range before Tanaka turned in a Stach cross, only for the effort to be disallowed for a narrow offside. Brighton had enjoyed more possession but created little during that period, with their attack missing injured trio Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma.
Brighton finally gathered momentum around the hour. Charalampos Kostoulas carried the ball past several defenders before shooting at goalkeeper James Trafford, while Trafford also pushed Malick Yalcouye’s curling attempt around the post. Vuskovic completed the recovery with 19 minutes remaining, heading Maxim De Cuyper’s corner in at the far post.
The hosts pressed for a winner during a sharp late turnaround. Yasin Ayari tested Trafford, Promise David sent an effort over, and Pascal Gross missed from close range. Brighton finished with 17 second-half shots, but the teams shared the points. Leeds remained unbeaten after three league matches, while their wait for an away victory at Brighton continued.
