Louis Kimber extends Northamptonshire stay through 2028
Louis Kimber has signed a one-year extension with Northamptonshire after their Blast-winning season. Darren Lehmann has backed the all-rounder to improve on his first-year returns.

Louis Kimber has agreed a one-year contract extension with Northamptonshire, keeping the all-rounder at the club until the end of the 2028 season. BBC Sport reported the deal on Friday, with head coach Darren Lehmann backing the 29-year-old to make a greater contribution after his first campaign with the county.

Watch the highlights:

The new agreement follows a season in which Kimber made 17 appearances across the County Championship and T20 Blast. Northamptonshire won the Blast in July, giving him a trophy in his first year after moving from Leicestershire. BBC Sport reported that he finished the campaign with 175 runs and one wicket across those appearances.

His red-ball returns included 114 runs from eight innings in five matches, according to the Northampton Chronicle and Echo. His highest score was 66 in May's two-wicket victory over Gloucestershire, when he batted as a concussion substitute for Saif Zaib. That innings accounted for more than half of his Championship runs for the season.

Kimber also played in 12 of Northamptonshire's 15 Blast matches, including both the semi-final and final at Edgbaston, the Chronicle reported. He made 61 runs in eight innings and bowled seven overs in the competition. The extension comes despite those limited individual returns, with Lehmann acknowledging that Kimber had not enjoyed the season he wanted while expressing confidence in his ability to contribute more.

Northamptonshire originally announced Kimber's arrival on a two-year, all-format contract in October 2025. The club's announcement, published by Cricket World, recorded more than 3,000 runs and 26 wickets during his time at Leicestershire. His standout innings there came against Sussex in 2024, when he struck 243 from 127 balls, including 21 sixes. Those performances formed part of the batting pedigree he brought to his new county.

Speaking to the club in comments carried by BBC Sport, Kimber said winning the Blast had strengthened his appetite for further success. He welcomed the extension and said he wanted to keep developing his game and contribute more to Northamptonshire. Lehmann likewise expressed enthusiasm about seeing what the all-rounder could produce next year.
