LIV Golf Cancels Michigan Team Championship and Ends Season in Indianapolis
LIV Golf has cancelled its Michigan Team Championship, making this week's Indianapolis event the final stop of the season. The league says the early finish will allow it to focus resources on a planned transition to a player-owned model.

LIV Golf has cancelled its season-ending Team Championship in Michigan and will instead conclude its campaign this week in Indianapolis, the BBC reported. The Michigan event had been scheduled for August 27-30, but the league confirmed on Monday that it would not take place as it concentrates resources on what it called its next chapter.

Watch the highlights:

The cancellation had been widely expected after signs that the event was in doubt. Players including Tyrrell Hatton entered the British Masters, which is being held on the same dates, while tickets for the Michigan tournament were no longer being sold. LIV said ticket holders for the cancelled event will receive refunds.

Indianapolis will now serve as both the final tournament of the season and a team competition. LIV chief executive Scott O'Neil said ending the campaign there would let the organization direct its resources toward the transition ahead. He described plans for a fundamentally new league owned by its players, supported by partners and built around a sustainable business model.

The schedule change comes during a period of financial and structural uncertainty. Saudi Arabia withdrew its financial backing in April, according to the BBC. Its Public Investment Fund had spent £3.7 billion on LIV since the competition launched in 2022, using major contracts and prize money to attract players including Bryson DeChambeau. O'Neil has said new investors have been secured and previously indicated that a transaction was expected to close in September.

Retaining leading players could be important to the planned ownership structure, with players set to be offered equity. The BBC noted a Telegraph report that LIV executives expect Jon Rahm to leave, although his representatives have not commented. Rahm is scheduled to compete in Indianapolis and recently secured the league's individual championship for a third straight year.

The Indianapolis finale will also be scaled back outside the golf itself. Planned weekend concerts by Thomas Rhett and Disco Lines have been cancelled because of what LIV described as unavoidable changes to the entertainment program. The league acknowledged the disappointment for fans, local stakeholders and the artists. Indianapolis will therefore close the season earlier than planned while also marking the point from which LIV intends to reshape its competition.
