Litton Das century sets Afghanistan 479 after Bangladesh declaration
Litton Das scored 102 as Bangladesh declared their second innings at 372-7, setting Afghanistan 479 to win the one-off Test in Abu Dhabi on Monday. The BBC Sport scorecard showed the hosts at 15-1 after four overs of their reply on day four, with the match still in progress at Zayed Cricket Stadium.
Watch the highlights:
Das faced 117 balls and hit 14 fours before being caught by wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil off Mohammad Saleem. His dismissal brought the declaration after 105.2 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished unbeaten on 52 from 97 deliveries, including five boundaries. Together, they added 149 for the seventh wicket after Bangladesh had slipped to 223-6, taking the innings to its eventual declaration total.
That stand followed substantial contributions from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim, who rebuilt the innings after Bangladesh fell to 53-3. Shanto made 82 from 191 balls, while Mushfiqur scored 81 from 148. Their fourth-wicket partnership was worth 159 before Zia Ur Rahman Akbar dismissed Mushfiqur. Qais Ahmad subsequently bowled Shanto, and Akbar removed Hasan Mahmud for one before Das and Miraz took control of the scoring.
Afghanistan used seven bowlers in Bangladesh's second innings. Yamin Ahmadzai, Saleem and Akbar each collected two wickets, while Qais took the other. Akbar delivered 33 overs and returned 2-86; Saleem finished with 2-69. The declaration left Afghanistan facing a target built on Bangladesh's first-innings advantage of 106 runs, after totals of 346 and 240 respectively.
Rahmat Shah had kept Afghanistan's first innings together with an unbeaten 105 from 216 balls, while Abdul Malik contributed 62. Mahmud finished with 5-55 and Ebadot Hossain took 4-56, accounting for nine wickets between them. Bangladesh's first innings had featured 83 from Tanzid Hasan Tamim, 67 from Shadman Islam and 53 from Das, whose century followed that earlier half-century.
Ebadot struck again at the start of Afghanistan's chase, having Malik caught by Das for two with the score at 3-1. At the four-over checkpoint recorded by the BBC, Sediq Atal was unbeaten on three and Shahidullah Kamal on nine. Afghanistan still needed 464 runs with nine wickets remaining; no result had been decided.
