Wales Wing Lisa Neumann Weighs Next Move After Harlequins Exit
Wales wing Lisa Neumann is considering her next move after leaving Harlequins, with no new club agreement yet in place. BBC Sport Wales reported that the 32-year-old has received offers but is weighing more than their financial terms as she decides where to continue her career.
Neumann joined Harlequins in February 2024 and scored six tries in 22 appearances during her first season at the Stoop. Her second campaign was far more limited, however, as she made only one appearance for the Premiership Women's Rugby side and instead played for Brython Thunder in the Celtic Challenge.
Her season was then cut short during Wales' opening match of the 2026 Six Nations against Scotland, when she suffered a hamstring injury. Neumann told BBC Sport Wales that the timing was difficult but said her experience of previous injuries helped her trust the rehabilitation process. She is now fit again and in her third week of pre-season training with Wales.
Neumann said leaving Harlequins was difficult because of her connection with the players, but she believed a change of environment was the right decision. She has examined the offers available to her and said quality of life will be a factor. A move to a Welsh club remains one possible future option, although she has not committed to that route.
Travel has been a significant part of Neumann's career. Before becoming a Wales professional, the former Sale Sharks wing made an eight-hour round trip from Manchester to Cardiff three times a week for training. BBC Sport Wales reported that she now makes a comparable journey from London, adding practical weight to her consideration of where to play next.
Her immediate focus is Wales' WXV Global Series campaign. Wales are scheduled to host South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park on 18 September and the United States at the same venue on 26 September, before travelling to Japan for Tests on 23 and 31 October. All three opponents were ranked above Wales when the report was published, and Neumann said the team must begin closing that gap as it prepares for the series.
