Lions end Vikings unbeaten start with 19-15 comeback win
Jared Goff found Jameson Williams for the decisive touchdown as Detroit handed Minnesota its first defeat. The Lions improved to 5-2, while the Vikings fell to 6-1.

The Detroit Lions handed the Minnesota Vikings their first defeat of the season with a 19-15 victory on Sunday, recovering from a fourth-quarter deficit to win their Week Eight meeting. According to The Guardian's live coverage, Detroit improved to 5-2 while Minnesota slipped to 6-1, with Jared Goff and Jameson Williams combining for the decisive touchdown.

Watch the highlights:

Jahmyr Gibbs helped turn the game in Detroit's favour during the second half. His 30-yard touchdown run with 4:41 remaining in the third quarter put the Lions ahead 12-7. Detroit failed to add a two-point conversion, leaving the margin at five points and giving Minnesota the opportunity to move back in front with a touchdown of its own.

The Vikings took that chance in the fourth quarter. Kyler Murray connected with Jordan Addison for a 51-yard gain that brought Minnesota into scoring position, then found tight end T.J. Hockenson for an eight-yard touchdown with 8:44 left. Murray completed another pass to Addison on the two-point conversion, turning Detroit's advantage into a 15-12 Minnesota lead.

Detroit responded with Gibbs again making important gains. He escaped pressure behind the line of scrimmage on a 17-yard run, helping the Lions move towards midfield. A later nine-yard rush set up first-and-goal, before Goff found Williams for a seven-yard touchdown with 4:35 remaining. The score restored Detroit's lead and ultimately proved enough to settle the contest.

Minnesota could not answer on its next possession. Detroit forced a fourth down and the Vikings punted with 2:51 remaining, giving the Lions the opportunity to protect their lead on the ground. The Guardian recorded Gibbs at 151 rushing yards from 23 carries with 1:47 left; those figures were an in-game update rather than a confirmed final statistical total.

The Lions then completed the job by retaining possession. Minnesota used its final timeout facing a third-and-one situation, and Goff subsequently converted with a sneak to secure the result. Detroit's late defensive stop and closing rushing sequence ensured that Minnesota had no successful response to Williams's touchdown, ending the Vikings' unbeaten start after a game that changed hands twice in the final quarter.
