Lewis Hall signs Newcastle contract extension through 2031

Lewis Hall has signed a new Newcastle United contract running until 2031, extending his previous agreement by two years. BBC Sport reported the deal for the 22-year-old left-back, who has made 106 appearances since joining from Chelsea in 2023. Hall has also won four England caps during his career.

The defender described extending his stay as a source of pride, pointing to his childhood support for Newcastle and his family's connection with the club. He said representing the supporters and giving them something to celebrate mattered to him. Making his family proud was another motivation, with their attachment to Newcastle adding significance to watching him play there.

Hall also welcomed the team's start to the season under new head coach Matthias Jaissle and his coaching staff. In comments carried by the BBC, he expressed confidence about what Newcastle could achieve. His remarks accompanied a contract that adds two seasons to his existing commitment, rather than a move to a different club.

Jaissle described Hall as important to the team he is building and praised his willingness to improve. The coach highlighted the defender's desire to learn in training and perform better from match to match. He also singled out Hall's ability to cover ground, his defensive judgement and the technical qualities that allow him to contribute further up the pitch.

The BBC's report detailed the attacking side of Hall's development alongside the contract announcement. He has already supplied two assists this season. Among full-backs who played at least 900 Premier League minutes last season, he ranked first for high-speed runs and underlapping runs per game, and in the top three for completed dribbles per match, according to the broadcaster.

Hall's longer-term agreement comes three years after his arrival from Chelsea. He missed out on England's World Cup squad, the BBC reported, despite having earned senior international caps. Jaissle said he believed the defender still had considerable scope to improve and looked forward to working with him as he developed at Newcastle. The new deal secures that club commitment through 2031.
