Leicester overturn half-time deficit to beat Northampton 28-7
Leicester scored four second-half tries to overturn a 7-3 deficit and beat Northampton 28-7. Freddie Steward's late score secured a derby bonus point at Welford Road.

Leicester Tigers scored four tries after half-time to beat Northampton Saints 28-7 at Mattioli Woods Welford Road on Saturday, securing a bonus-point victory in the East Midlands derby. The hosts overturned a 7-3 interval deficit and prevented Northampton from adding to their early score as rain and wind complicated handling for both teams.

Watch the highlights:

According to Talking Rugby Union's match report, Northampton took the lead when Fin Smith chipped behind Leicester's defence and Billy Searle failed to gather the ball. James Pater collected to score, with Smith adding the conversion. Freddie Steward then kicked a long-range penalty to put Leicester on the board, but Saints retained their advantage until the break.

Leicester's response began with Jamie Blamire finishing a driving maul to give the home side their first lead. Talking Rugby Union reported that a subsequent scrum penalty helped create another attacking opportunity, with Solomone Kata and Gabriel Hamer-Webb involved before Cameron Henderson crossed in the corner. Finn Carnduff then scored Leicester's third try following another attacking lineout and a short pass from Joe Heyes.

The Northampton Chronicle and Echo reported that Leicester's improved lineout and growing scrum pressure changed the contest after an error-filled first half. Searle missed the conversions of the first three Leicester tries, but Northampton could not exploit those missed kicks. When Saints assembled phases in the home half, Leicester resisted and won a scrum penalty to ease the pressure.

Searle added a penalty before a reviewed incident changed the direction of a Northampton attack. The Chronicle reported that Adam Radwan was initially shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on after George Hendy's break. Referee Craig Maxwell-Keys then reviewed an earlier high tackle by Tom Lockett on Kata, sending Lockett to the sin bin and allowing Radwan to return.

Leicester used the resulting penalty to establish another attacking lineout. After Northampton stopped the maul, the hosts moved the ball to Steward, who scored beneath the posts for the bonus point. Searle converted, and Northampton's final attacking effort was held up, completing a second half in which Leicester scored all 25 points.
