Leeds Rhinos Run Riot at York to Return to Super League Summit

Leeds Rhinos returned to the top of the Super League table with a 66-16 victory over York Knights at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday. According to match reports from BBC Sport and York, Leeds scored 12 tries in a dominant performance, with Riley Lumb completing a hat-trick as the visitors built a 36-0 halftime advantage.

The Rhinos opened the scoring after seven minutes when Ryan Hall intercepted a York pass and helped create the position from which Lumb crossed out wide. Lumb added his second five minutes later by taking Jake Connor's high kick, then broke down the wing to set up Chris Hankinson. Kallum Watkins followed with Leeds' fourth try after collecting a Lachie Miller kick.

Leeds continued to control the first half. A Connor 40/20 gave Mikolaj Oledzki the platform to force his way over beneath the posts, and Miller then supported a Cameron Smith break to score the sixth try before the interval. York briefly thought Sam Wood had answered, but the video referee ruled out his effort.

Matt Lodge extended the lead shortly after halftime by scoring on his Leeds debut. York finally registered points when Wood collected a high Paul McShane kick in the 45th minute, with Jon Bennison adding the conversion. Leeds responded through Hall, Lumb's third try and Brodie Croft, removing any prospect of a comeback.

York produced its best spell late in the contest. Bennison and David Nofoaluma scored in the 69th and 75th minutes, the latter from a Cody Hunter kick, while Bennison converted one of those two tries. The home side's resistance did not alter the result, as Ash Handley followed his own chip to score before Hankinson crossed for his second try in the final minute.

Connor converted all four of his attempts and Hankinson landed four of eight, completing Leeds' 66-point total. The result restored the Rhinos to first place after Wigan had moved above them on Friday. York's official report said Leeds are heading into the playoffs in good form, while the Knights were left to absorb a heavy home defeat despite their three second-half tries.
