Le Fée Penalty Earns Sunderland a Point at Brentford

Enzo Le Fée scored from the penalty spot with eight minutes remaining as Sunderland earned a 1-1 Premier League draw at Brentford on Saturday. The Guardian reported that Keane Lewis-Potter was penalized for holding substitute Wilson Isidor at the back post, giving Le Fée the opportunity to cancel out Vitaly Janelt’s 57th-minute opener.

Sunderland had created the clearer openings before the interval. Dan Ballard put the ball in the net with a volley, but the effort was disallowed because debutant Kevin Danso was offside and judged to be in goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher’s line of sight. Le Fée also struck a post, while Jannik Schuster blocked another goal-bound attempt inside the six-yard box.

Brentford were forced into an early adjustment when captain Nathan Collins went off with a calf problem and Schuster replaced him. Manager Keith Andrews then made three substitutions at half-time, including the introduction of Aaron Hickey. The changes helped the hosts establish more control after a difficult opening period, with Hickey limiting the space available to Sunderland winger Nilson Angulo.

Igor Thiago tested Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs with a close-range header before Brentford broke through. Nordi Mukiele’s diving headed clearance reached Janelt near the edge of the area, and the midfielder met the bouncing ball with a controlled finish into the top corner in the 57th minute.

Brentford also received energy from substitutes Yehor Yarmolyuk and Jaidon Antony as the second half developed. Sunderland, however, remained within one goal and found their route back into the game when Isidor’s movement at the far post drew the decisive foul. Le Fée chose a conventional penalty and converted to bring the visitors level.

Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris said his team had been dominant without taking its first-half chances, but praised its ability to change the course of a match after falling behind. Andrews acknowledged that Brentford had not reached its expected level before the break and said the substitutions supplied renewed energy. Neither side found a winner after Le Fée’s equalizer, leaving the points shared at the Gtech Community Stadium.
