Lando Norris Commits to McLaren Through at Least 2030

Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has signed a new contract with McLaren that will keep him at the team through at least the end of the 2030 season. McLaren announced the agreement on Saturday, extending a partnership that began when the British driver made his Formula 1 debut with the team in 2019.

Norris told BBC Sport that accepting the extension was an easy decision and said he did not look at opportunities with other teams. He acknowledged that there had been interest from elsewhere, but made clear that he wanted to remain with McLaren and continue working with the same group.

There was no immediate contractual deadline forcing the decision. According to the BBC's report, Norris's previous agreement still had more than a year to run. The 26-year-old said a possible extension had been discussed loosely in the background for approximately four months before the new deal was completed.

Norris identified his relationships inside McLaren, including those with chief executive Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella, as central to his commitment. He has experienced both difficult and successful periods with the organization. McLaren struggled for competitiveness during the early years of his Formula 1 career before improving rapidly after Stella became team principal at the end of 2022.

That improvement produced consecutive constructors' championships in 2024 and 2025, ending McLaren's wait for that title dating to 1998. Norris then won the 2025 drivers' championship. He told the BBC that the shared journey created a strong bond, emphasizing that neither he nor the team had given up during the less competitive years.

McLaren has faced a more difficult opening to the 2026 campaign while working to master Formula 1's new regulations. Norris said that challenge reinforced his desire to stay rather than encouraging him to consider another team. The long-term agreement now secures the reigning champion through the end of the decade as McLaren works to recover the performance level that delivered its recent titles.
