Lamine Yamal Scores Twice as Barcelona Sweep Valencia 5-0

The Guardian, citing agency reporting, said Barcelona controlled the contest from the outset. Yamal opened the scoring in the sixth minute, lifting his finish over the goalkeeper after Fermín López played him in. The 19-year-old later had another effort ruled out for a tight offside following a VAR review.

Fermín doubled the visitors' advantage in the 22nd minute after Anthony Gordon set him up. Barcelona continued to create chances before halftime, with Yamal shooting narrowly wide and Fermín hitting the post. Valencia threatened through Arnaut Danjuma, but goalkeeper Joan García stopped his effort at the near post.

Barcelona also suffered an injury concern in the first half. Eric García was forced off after colliding with teammate Rodri's shoulder. The match was Rodri's first start for the club since his summer arrival from Manchester City, according to The Guardian's report. No further detail on García's condition was provided.

Raphinha added Barcelona's third from close range after another pass from Fermín, taking his total to six goals for the season. Pedri then made it 4-0 following an exchange with Dani Olmo. New signing Gabriel Jesus entered during the final 10 minutes for his Barcelona debut and sent a low shot narrowly wide.

Yamal completed the scoring after staying onside to receive another Olmo pass. The emphatic win left Barcelona as the only La Liga team to have won each of its first four matches. Their lead was helped by Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat at Real Betis on Friday, while coach Hansi Flick cautioned that the strong opening remained only the beginning of a long season.
