Burglar jailed for four years after theft at Kyren Wilson's home
A man who burgled former world snooker champion Kyren Wilson's home has been sentenced to four years in prison. Northamptonshire Police said Kane Lee, 28, changed his plea to guilty at Northampton Crown Court on October 12 and was sentenced that day. The force published details of the outcome on Friday, October 16.
Watch the highlights:
The burglary took place on June 22 at Wilson's family home in Barton Seagrave, near Kettering. Police said Lee travelled from Luton after obtaining tools and clothing from B&Q and Tesco, using a vehicle carrying cloned number plates. He broke an upstairs window to enter the house and left in the same vehicle after searching the property.
Jewellery, watches, designer handbags and cash were among the items taken, BBC reporting confirmed. Wilson subsequently said £2,000 had been put aside for the BeMoreFab Children's Cancer Charity. The BBC also reported that he held an exhibition in Corby earlier this month to support the same charity, following the loss of the money intended for donation.
The impact extended beyond the stolen possessions. According to local reporting by Luton Today, Wilson withdrew from the Championship League Snooker event in Leicester following the break-in. In his public account of the incident, he described the distress caused by losing items associated with personal memories, rather than focusing solely on their financial value.
Officers from Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire worked together to identify and arrest Lee. He appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court on July 7, charged with a single count of burglary involving theft without violence. His later guilty plea at the crown court brought the case to sentencing, where he was also ordered to pay a £228 surcharge.
Detective Inspector Alan Rooney credited the cooperation between the two forces, saying the sharing of information and resources helped investigators pursue an offender who had travelled across county borders. He also emphasised the emotional consequences of a home being entered by a burglar. Wilson won the world snooker championship in Sheffield in 2024, a career milestone noted in the BBC's coverage of the case.
