Kvaratskhelia to undergo ACL surgery as PSG confirm three injuries

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will need surgery after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Tuesday's Champions League victory over Barcelona. In a medical update issued on Wednesday, the club said the operation would take place in the coming days. No return date was announced.

The Georgia winger was injured in a challenge involving Barcelona's Xavi Espart at the Parc des Princes. BBC Sport reported that he could not put weight on his right leg when he was substituted in the 59th minute. Reuters said two members of staff helped the 25-year-old leave the pitch after the incident.

His absence removes a player whose contribution was central to PSG's most recent European success. According to Reuters, Kvaratskhelia was named the best player of the last Champions League campaign after recording 10 goals and six assists. The agency also reported that he is among the 30 finalists for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

Kvaratskhelia joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and helped the French club secure consecutive Champions League titles, BBC Sport reported. He has made 11 appearances for the club this season. The confirmed diagnosis interrupts that campaign, although the club's announcement did not specify how much of the season he would miss.

PSG's medical bulletin also detailed injuries to Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos, both of whom came off against Barcelona. Dembélé has an injury to his left thigh, while Marquinhos has an injury to his right thigh. The club said both players would continue receiving treatment over the coming weeks, without setting precise dates for either to return to competition.

The injuries accompanied a 4-2 home victory that extended PSG's perfect start to their Champions League title defence. According to BBC Sport, the teams were tied at 2-2 entering the final 10 minutes before Paris scored twice to settle the match. PSG finished the night top of the league-phase table with three victories from three matches, but with three players requiring medical care.
