Kuldeep's Ten-Wicket Haul Powers Yorkshire Past Essex

Kuldeep Yadav produced career-best first-class match figures of 10-120 as Yorkshire completed an innings-and-106-run victory over Essex inside three days at Headingley. BBC Sport reported that the India left-arm wrist-spinner combined with seamer George Hill to drive Yorkshire to their fourth County Championship win in 12 matches.

Yorkshire had established control by making 390 in their first innings. Dom Bess anchored that total with an unbeaten 80, while Matt Critchley led the Essex bowling figures with 5-85. The home side's total ultimately gave its bowlers enough room to attack twice without Yorkshire needing to bat again.

Essex were dismissed for 171 in reply and then asked to follow on. George Bell, playing his first innings for the county after joining on loan from Lancashire the previous week, finished unbeaten on 64. Bell and Zaman Akhter delayed Yorkshire with a 68-run eighth-wicket partnership, but Kuldeep took 4-70 from 20 overs as the visitors conceded a first-innings deficit of 219.

The second innings brought an even more decisive spell from Kuldeep. He claimed 6-50 from 16 overs as Essex were bowled out for 113, with Paul Walter's 48 their highest score. Those figures completed Kuldeep's first 10-wicket match in first-class cricket. Hill supported him with two second-innings wickets after taking three in the first, giving the seamer five in the match.

Yorkshire collected 22 points from the victory, compared with two for Essex. According to BBC Sport, the result left Yorkshire with significant distance from the bottom two places with two matches remaining. Avoiding relegation would require the late-season standings to turn sharply against them after this win.

For Essex, the defeat was their sixth of the campaign and kept pressure on their Division One position. Their next assignment is against title-chasing Warwickshire at Chelmsford. Yorkshire, meanwhile, leave Headingley with a commanding result built on Bess's unbeaten innings and a match-defining display from Kuldeep.
