Korda Sets 36-Hole Scoring Record at Chevron Championship
Nelly Korda shot a scintillating second round of 64 to set a new 36-hole scoring record at the Chevron Championship, reaching 14-under par and opening up a four-shot lead heading into the weekend.

American golf star Nelly Korda continued her remarkable form by shooting a scintillating 7-under par 64 in the second round of the Chevron Championship, setting a new 36-hole scoring record of 14-under par at Carlton Woods in Texas. The world number one opened up a commanding four-shot lead as she bids for her first major championship victory of the season.

Korda's round featured seven birdies against no bogeys, showcasing the exceptional ball-striking that has defined her recent performances. Her driving distance off the tee consistently found the fairway, while her iron play into the par-5s yielded multiple eagle opportunities. The Indiana native converted birdie putts from distances of 12, 15, and 20 feet throughout her bogey-free回路.

The 25-year-old began her round on the back nine and immediately signaled her intentions with birdies at holes 10 and 12. A magnificent approach to the par-5 13th set up a tap-in birdie, and she continued her charge with further gains at 15 and 17. Her front nine proved equally impressive, with closing birdies at holes 7 and 9 providing the exclamation point on an otherwise flawless performance.

Speaking after her round, Korda expressed satisfaction with her position while emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus over the remaining 36 holes. She acknowledged that major championships present unique challenges and that past experiences have taught her the value of patience and process-oriented thinking. Her approach will be to treat each hole independently and avoid looking at the leaderboard during crucial moments.

Her nearest challenger is fellow American Lilia Vu, who posted a 66 to reach 10-under par. Vu's round included an eagle at the par-5 second hole, demonstrating the attacking mentality that has brought her success in previous majors. Japanese player Yuka Saso sits third at 9-under, while former champion Patty Tavatanakit is a further shot back.

The record-breaking performance adds to Korda's impressive 2026 season, which includes two PGA Tour victories already. She has now posted 12 consecutive rounds in the 60s across her last three tournaments, demonstrating remarkable consistency at the highest level. If she maintains her current form, Korda will be difficult to catch over the weekend at a venue that rewards precise iron play and confident putting.
