Konate Close to Agreeing New Liverpool Contract After Breakthrough Season
Ibrahima Konate is on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with Liverpool, with the centre-back set to commit his future to the club following an outstanding campaign at the heart of the defence.

Ibrahima Konate is close to ending any speculation over his future at Liverpool, with the French centre-back set to commit to a new long-term deal at Anfield. The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form this season, establishing himself as one of the Premier League's most reliable defenders and forming a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

Watch the highlights:

Sources close to the negotiations suggest the two parties are in advanced talks, with an announcement expected within the coming weeks. The new contract would represent a significant vote of confidence in Konate, who arrived at Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for around £36 million.

Konate's performances this season have been crucial to Liverpool's push for silverware on multiple fronts. The French international has missed just two Premier League matches, contributing to a defensive record that has kept the Reds in contention for the title and Champions League qualification.

"Konate has been exactly what we needed," said manager Arne Slot recently. "His physical presence, reading of the game, and composure on the ball have been vital to everything we want to do. We're delighted he's close to extending his stay."

The centre-back's improved fitness and consistency have been particularly noteworthy. After initial struggles with injury following his arrival, Konate has demonstrated the durability required at the highest level, starting 27 of Liverpool's 32 Premier League games this season.

His new contract would tie him to the club until at least 2029, providing stability at the back as Liverpool looks to build on their league position. Konate has previously spoken of his happiness at Anfield, and the prospect of a new deal would represent a mutual desire to continue what has become a successful partnership.
