KL Rahul's unbeaten 129 lifts India to 351-7 against West Indies
KL Rahul struck an unbeaten 129 from 87 balls as India recovered from two early wickets to reach 351-7 in the third and final one-day international against West Indies in New Chandigarh on Saturday. The completed innings left the visitors chasing 352, with the match still in progress. BBC Sport's scorecard and The Sunday Guardian's innings report confirmed Rahul's century and India's total.
Watch the highlights:
Rahul finished with 10 fours and six sixes, providing India's highest individual score after Rohit Sharma had made 92 and Ruturaj Gaikwad 57. His contribution ensured the hosts completed their 50 overs with a total above 350 despite losing captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in the third over.
Jayden Seales made the early breakthroughs. Gill was caught by wicketkeeper Shai Hope for one, and Kohli was bowled without scoring from his first delivery. At 4-2, India needed to rebuild. Rohit and Gaikwad added 137 for the third wicket before Rohit was caught by Jewel Andrew off Keemo Paul, eight runs short of a hundred. Rohit's 85-ball innings included 10 fours and three sixes.
Gaikwad faced 69 balls before John Campbell caught him off Seales, leaving India 160-4. Naman Dhir then contributed 30 from 21 deliveries, while Nitish Kumar Reddy made nine. Debutant Anshul Kamboj added 17 from nine balls before being run out. Gurnoor Brar finished unbeaten on eight alongside Rahul as India reached the end of their allotted overs with three wickets intact.
Seales returned 3-62 from his 10 overs, accounting for Gill, Kohli and Gaikwad. Paul took 2-71 and Gudakesh Motie 1-67. India's final total contained eight extras, while Rahul remained at the crease through the loss of Dhir, Reddy and Kamboj.
India had already secured the series with eight-wicket victories in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati, according to the Associated Press. AP also reported that Kamboj made his ODI debut after Prasidh Krishna was ruled out through injury, with Mohammed Siraj and Reddy returning to the side. Saturday's innings put India in position to defend a substantial target, but did not settle the final match or confirm a series sweep.
