Khadija Shaw omitted from FifPro Women’s World XI shortlist after City double
Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw is absent from the FifPro Women’s World XI shortlist despite helping her club win a league and FA Cup double. The final team will be announced on 9 November following votes from 6,511 players.

Khadija Shaw has missed out on the FifPro Women’s World XI shortlist after a season in which she helped Manchester City secure a league and FA Cup double. BBC Sport reported that the Women’s Super League Player of the Year was not among the finalists, despite finishing as City’s leading scorer with 21 goals in 22 games. England internationals Lauren Hemp and Lauren James were also absent.

Watch the highlights:

The shortlist was determined through an online vote involving 6,511 women’s footballers from 64 countries. Performances were assessed over the period from 4 August 2025 to 16 August 2026, with players required to make at least 20 appearances to be eligible. The final World XI is due to be announced at 13:00 GMT on Monday, 9 November.

FifPro’s selection system allocates places to the goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards who receive the most votes in their respective positions. The eleventh place goes to the remaining outfield player with the highest vote total, regardless of position. Votes cast for the same player in different positions are combined, so support is not split if voters classify a player differently.

The nominated forwards include Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones, Arsenal pair Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo, and Lyon’s Ada Hegerberg. Orlando Pride’s Barbra Banda and Real Madrid’s Athenea del Castillo also made the list, alongside Barcelona duo Ewa Pajor and Claudia Pina. Those eight finalists will compete for the three designated forward positions, with the additional outfield place also available under the voting rules.

Manchester United’s Ella Toone is among the midfield finalists. The other nominees in that category are Aitana Bonmati, Ghizlane Chebbak, Patri Guijarro, Anaele Le Moguedec, Vicky Lopez and Alexia Putellas. In goal, voters put forward Gotham’s Ann-Katrin Berger, Barcelona’s Catalina Coll and Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton for the single goalkeeper position in the team.

The defensive shortlist comprises Ona Batlle, Lucy Bronze, Ellie Carpenter, Emily Fox, Alex Greenwood, Mapi Leon, Katie McCabe and Irene Paredes. The nominations leave City represented by Greenwood, even as Shaw and Hemp miss out. Across the four positional categories, the shortlist contains 26 players; the announcement next Monday will confirm which of them secure places in the final eleven.
