Kerjota's 96th-minute winner sends Hearts second after fourth straight league win

Sabah Kerjota struck a 96th-minute winner as Hearts recovered to beat Dundee and secure a fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership victory. BBC Sport reported that Hearts needed two late goals to break down their visitors at Tynecastle, with Kerjota’s decisive effort also marking his first goal for the Edinburgh club.

The result moved Hearts into second place after five league matches and extended a formidable home sequence. They have now won 10 consecutive league games at Tynecastle and have not lost a home league fixture since April 2025. Across the 2026 calendar year, Hearts have won 12 of their 13 league matches on their own ground.

The run has developed despite major changes following last season, when Hearts came within minutes of winning their first league title in 60 years. Head coach Derek McInnes, captain Lawrence Shankland, midfielder Cammy Devlin and set-piece coach Ross Grant all departed after the final-day defeat by Celtic. Wouter Vrancken was appointed as McInnes’ replacement a little more than a week later.

Vrancken’s tenure began with defeats by Sturm Graz and Benfica as well as an opening-weekend collapse against Aberdeen. BBC Sport’s assessment is that a substantially rebuilt squad has since begun to settle. Goalkeeper Beau Reus has strengthened the back line, while Laurent Mendy has stepped into midfield after arriving via Forest Green Rovers.

Several other players have assumed larger roles. Josh McPake has carried strong form into the new campaign, Calvin Miller has scored four goals in Hearts colours, and James Wilson has produced four goals in his past six games after spending the second half of last season with Tottenham’s academy side. Blair Spittal, previously used as an impact substitute, has become captain under Vrancken.

Kerjota’s contribution against Dundee supplied another sign of that transition. The winger has pushed for a starting place after taking time to establish himself, while January arrival Rogers Mato has emerged as an option from the bench. The late comeback does not settle how Hearts’ reshaped team will fare over a full season, but four straight league wins and a 10-match home streak give Vrancken a strong platform after a difficult opening.
