Kepu Tuipulotu knee injury puts England autumn debut in doubt
Kepu Tuipulotu's hopes of making his senior England debut this autumn have been interrupted by a knee injury suffered during national-team training on Tuesday. BBC Sport reported that the uncapped Bath hooker, 21, is not expected to be included in the squad for the Nations Championship match against Australia on 8 November.
The extent of his absence remains uncertain. According to the BBC's Chris Jones, there is no clear timetable for his return, leaving his availability for the rest of the campaign unresolved. England also face Japan and New Zealand in November before the competition's finals weekend at the end of the month.
Tuipulotu is not England's only injury concern. The BBC reported that scrum-half Archie McParland has been left out of Northampton's squad to play Gloucester, while fly-half Fin Smith remains a major doubt for Australia. Gloucester have, however, selected Seb Atkinson at inside centre as he seeks to demonstrate his fitness.
The setback follows a period of progression for Tuipulotu at club and age-group level. Bath confirmed earlier this year that he had renewed his contract through 2028. In a club profile, Bath traced his arrival to the London Irish academy, where he was part of the side that won the Premiership Rugby Under-18 Academy League in 2023. His move to Bath brought his first professional rugby contract.
Ultimate Rugby's player profile records that Tuipulotu made his England Under-20 debut in the 2025 Six Nations after progressing through the Under-18 programme. It also notes his player-of-the-match performance against Scotland at Kingston Park, alongside Premiership and Champions Cup debuts for Bath. Those steps preceded his opportunity to train with England's senior squad this autumn.
Born in Newport, Tuipulotu began playing at Cwmbran RFC before attending Harrow School and developing in London Irish's academy, according to Ultimate Rugby. The profile describes a family with extensive rugby connections: his sister Sisilia and cousin Carwyn are also professional players. It lists Malcolm Marx, Dan Sheehan and Carlos Spencer among his rugby inspirations.
