Kent Sign Khaled Ahmed for County Championship Promotion Run-In

Kent have added Bangladesh international fast bowler Khaled Ahmed for the final four matches of their County Championship campaign. BBC Sport reported that the agreement brings the 33-year-old seamer into the squad as Kent chase an immediate route back to Division One during a closely contested finish in the second tier.

Ahmed arrives with 190 wickets from 70 first-class appearances for Sylhet, his home division in Bangladesh. He made his Test debut for his country in 2018 and has since collected 34 wickets across 18 Test appearances, giving Kent another bowler with international and red-ball experience for the decisive stage of the season.

The signing places Ahmed alongside Bangladesh team-mate Hasan Mahmud, who has returned to Kent after an earlier spell with the county in June. BBC Sport reported that Mahmud claimed 12 wickets across his first two Kent matches before leaving for international duty. That return included match figures of 9-101 against Lancashire at Stanley Park.

Kent enter the run-in second in Division Two. They are level on points with third-placed Northamptonshire and sit 40 points behind leaders Durham, according to the BBC report. With promotion still being pursued and little separation between Kent and Northamptonshire, the remaining four fixtures will determine whether the county can retain a place in the promotion positions.

Three of those final four matches are scheduled to be played at home. Kent director of cricket Simon Cook said the arrangement allows the team to continue with an approach that worked during the first half of the season. He also said the additional pace-bowling option will give Kent flexibility to rest and rotate their leading bowlers without reducing the team's intended performance level.

Ahmed said through Kent's club channels that representing a county with Kent's history was an honour and identified promotion as the immediate objective. Cook also noted that more Bangladeshi supporters had begun following the county during Mahmud's earlier stint. Ahmed's deal is limited to the four remaining Championship matches, focusing his role squarely on Kent's attempt to secure promotion from Division Two.
