Kamada strikes in stoppage time as ten-man Palace draw with Hoffenheim
Daichi Kamada scored in the first minute of stoppage time as Crystal Palace recovered from a goal down and a red card to draw 1-1 with Hoffenheim at Selhurst Park on Thursday. Sky Sports confirmed the Europa League result, with Kamada cancelling out Alexander Prass's seventh-minute opener after Adam Wharton had been dismissed in the 77th minute.
Watch the highlights:
Hoffenheim's early breakthrough came from a counterattack. According to Everything Crystal Palace's live match coverage, Tim Lemperle supplied Prass, who scored with his left foot from inside the penalty area. The visitors then created further opportunities, with Dean Henderson saving efforts from Fisnik Asllani and Andrej Kramaric before the midway point of the first half.
Palace had chances to respond before the interval. Kamada shot wide, while Jean-Philippe Mateta had a header and a separate right-footed effort saved by Oliver Baumann. Anan Khalaili also headed off target. At the other end, Henderson denied Wouter Burger before Ozan Kabak headed over from a corner, leaving Hoffenheim a goal ahead at half-time.
Palace introduced Eddie Nketiah and Oscar Mingueza in the 55th minute, replacing Quinten Timber and Khalaili. OFStats' match commentary records another opportunity for the hosts when Wharton set up Yeremy Pino, whose shot was saved by Baumann. Dario Osorio and Dwight McNeil later entered the match as Palace continued their search for an equaliser.
That pursuit became harder when Wharton received his second booking. Everything Crystal Palace's account records an initial yellow card in the 58th minute, followed by another for a foul on Burger in the 77th. Palace were left to chase the match with ten players, while Hoffenheim still held the advantage established near the start.
The equaliser finally arrived after a McNeil attempt was blocked. OFStats records Kamada finishing right-footed from the centre of the penalty area in the 91st minute. Hoffenheim still threatened afterwards, with Henderson saving a Kramaric shot in added time, but neither side found a second goal. Palace's late recovery secured a point despite playing the closing stages a man short.
