Julien Alfred Wins Brussels 200m as Amy Hunt Takes Third

Julien Alfred won the women’s 200m at the Diamond League final in Brussels, clocking 21.79 seconds to finish ahead of American Kyla White and Britain’s Amy Hunt. The Guardian reported that White took second in 22.00, while Hunt ran a season-best 22.16 for third at the Memorial Van Damme meeting.

Hunt started quickly and remained close to Alfred around the bend before the St Lucian pulled away in the closing portion of the race. Alfred, the Olympic 100m champion from Paris, finished 0.37 seconds ahead of Hunt. White separated the pair, reaching the line 0.21 seconds behind the winner.

After the race, Hunt described the performance as one of the best 200m races she had run, pointing to the late-season conditions and tired legs. She also said it was the closest she had been to Alfred through the bend. The result followed a European Championships campaign in Birmingham last month in which Hunt won four gold medals.

The men’s 1500m produced another close finish. Australia’s Cameron Myers found a route through traffic on the home straight and won in 3:30.14, beating Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Phanuel Koech. Ingebrigtsen recorded 3:30.52, his fastest time since returning after an 11-month absence caused by an Achilles injury.

World champion Oblique Seville won the men’s 100m in 9.90 despite a slow start, finishing three-hundredths of a second ahead of Emmanuel Eseme. Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a meeting record of 1:41.80 in the men’s 800m and finished nearly a second clear of Djamel Sedjati. Britain’s Ben Pattison placed fifth in 1:44.29.

Busang Collen Kebinatshipi lowered his own Diamond League record in the men’s 400m with a winning time of 43.40. Emmanouil Karalis cleared 6.12 metres to break the meeting record in the pole vault after Mondo Duplantis withdrew because of tightness in his leg. Duplantis said his participation in next week’s Ultimate Championships in Budapest remained uncertain. The two-day Brussels meeting is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
