Josh Adams back in training after calf injury as Cardiff return nears
Josh Adams is training again after a calf injury and expects to return for Cardiff in October. The Wales wing says he anticipates being fit for international duty in November.

Josh Adams is back in training after the calf injury that interrupted his summer with Wales and kept him out of Cardiff's opening matches of the season. According to BBC Sport, the wing expects to return to club action in October and says he will be fit for November's internationals.

Watch the highlights:

The 31-year-old missed Wales' 43-0 defeat by South Africa in Durban in July because of the injury. His absence has continued into Cardiff's new campaign, but he told the BBC that he had been feeling good for some time. His expected comeback remains a target rather than a confirmed match appearance.

Adams said the priority was to complete his preparation properly and return fully healthy, rather than hurry back into competition. He confirmed that he was training and stressed the importance of having enough preparation before playing again. The British and Irish Lions wing's comments offered an update on his recovery after missing both club and international rugby.

Wales have four matches in November in the second half of the Nations Championship. Japan, New Zealand and Australia are due to visit Cardiff before a final play-off fixture at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham. Adams' stated aim is to be available for that international programme following his return to club rugby.

The Cardiff player also outlined his ambition to earn selection for a third World Cup, while acknowledging that months of rugby remain before the squad is chosen. He said he had never visited Australia and was determined to make the trip, but recognised that reaching the tournament fit and ready would be important.

Adams has made 72 appearances for Wales. He finished as the leading try scorer at the 2019 World Cup in Japan with seven, helping Wales reach the semi-finals, and was also in the squad beaten by Argentina in the quarter-finals four years later. Wales begin their 2027 campaign against Zimbabwe in Adelaide on 2 October, followed by pool matches against Tonga and England.
