Jorginho Issues Apology and Withdraws Claims Against Chappell Roan Over Hotel Incident
Jorginho has moved to close the books on a public dispute that drew significant attention in Brazil and on social media, confirming that the security guard involved in a hotel confrontation with his daughter was not working for Chappell Roan.
The Italy international, who now plies his trade with Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, had taken to Instagram last month to describe how a security employee had reduced his wife Catherine Harding and their 11-year-old daughter Ada to tears during breakfast at a hotel in Sao Paulo. The confrontation occurred after Ada recognised the pop star.
Roan responded publicly, expressing sadness for the mother and child involved while clarifying she had no knowledge of the incident and that her own personal security was not responsible.
Jorginho has now issued a fresh statement confirming those facts. "The security guard involved in the incident has confirmed publicly that he was representing another artist at the hotel at the time," he wrote on Instagram. "It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them."
The midfielder added that Roan reached out privately to his wife and that their respective teams held direct conversations. "She was understanding and sympathetic to what happened to our child," he said. "While we still do not know what prompted him to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old could reasonably be seen as any kind of security threat, it is now clear he was not acting on behalf of Chappell."
Jorginho insisted he would always stand up for his family, but also acknowledged when initial assumptions had been wrong. "I will always stand up for my family," he said. "But I also know how to recognise when things were not quite what they seemed at first. It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight."
The incident had spiralled beyond control at one stage, with Rio de Janeiro's mayor Eduardo Cavaliere publicly stating he intended to ban Roan from performing in the city. Jorginho also noted he does not support or encourage online hate speech from any quarter.
"I regret the impact that this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada and our family," he concluded.
