Jon Rahm Keeps LIV Golf Future Open Amid Tour Uncertainty

Jon Rahm has left his long-term LIV Golf future unresolved as uncertainty continues around the circuit following the withdrawal of financial backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Speaking before this week's Irish Open, the two-time major champion said his position had not materially changed since he discussed the issue in Indianapolis several weeks earlier.

BBC Sport reported that Rahm pointed to several factors still being in play and said time would determine what happens next. The Spaniard, who joined LIV before the 2024 season, also noted that he has become accustomed to handling turbulence since making the move. He did not announce an exit or provide a definite commitment beyond his existing contractual position.

The questions follow an unsettled period for LIV. Its 2026 campaign finished earlier than scheduled after the team championship in Detroit was cancelled. LIV said last month that it was scaling back operations, and employees were laid off at the beginning of September. Rahm's Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton has nevertheless said he expects the tour to continue in 2027.

Rahm is among several LIV players who reached an arrangement with the DP World Tour earlier this year. That agreement allowed him and Hatton, among others, to play on LIV without receiving a sanction from the European circuit, but it applies only to 2026. When asked about a possible route back to the PGA Tour, Rahm said the outcome remained to be seen. Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed have already left LIV for PGA Tour returns.

For now, Rahm's immediate focus is tournament golf in Europe. He is playing the Irish Open in Doonbeg, County Clare, before heading to Wentworth for next week's BMW PGA Championship, the DP World Tour's flagship event. This is his first Irish Open appearance since winning at Lahinch in 2019, his second title in the event after his 2017 victory at Portstewart.

Rahm arrives with strong recent results. The 31-year-old won twice during the 2026 LIV season and secured his third consecutive season-long individual title. He also tied for second at the USPGA Championship in May. After encountering wet and windy conditions in Ireland, he said his priority was becoming comfortable with the surroundings before attempting to match Seve Ballesteros with a third Irish Open victory.
