Joe Dean Storms to First DP World Tour Title at British Masters

Joe Dean claimed his first DP World Tour victory with a dramatic final-round charge at the British Masters, shooting a bogey-free nine-under-par 63 at The Belfry. BBC Sport reported that the 32-year-old Englishman finished at 14 under par, three shots clear of a four-player group tied for second.

Dean began Sunday seven strokes behind overnight leader Dan Hillier but quickly moved into contention with four birdies across his opening six holes. He added five more birdies on the back nine, including a 10-foot putt at the 18th, to establish the clubhouse target. He then waited around 90 minutes as the remaining contenders tried to close the gap.

None could match him. Hillier, Denmark’s Niklas Norgaard and Jacob Skov Olesen, and Spain’s Nacho Elvira shared second place at 11 under. Hillier closed with a one-over 73 after a double bogey at the sixth, while Norgaard and Olesen each posted 71 and Elvira finished with a 69.

Marco Penge briefly held a one-shot lead during the final round after making five birdies and two bogeys over his first nine holes. His challenge faded late, however, with bogeys at the 17th and 18th leaving him at 10 under. Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti also reached 12 under before a triple bogey at the last dropped him to nine under.

The result came in Dean’s 70th DP World Tour appearance. Ranked 292nd in the world entering the event, he earned approximately £440,000, according to BBC Sport, exceeding his total prize money from his previous 19 tournaments in the 2026 season. Dean had supplemented his golf income by delivering groceries two years earlier.

Stormy weather complicated the tournament schedule in Warwickshire, with more than nine hours of play lost across Thursday and Friday. Organisers still completed the event before further poor weather was forecast. The British Masters also opened the qualifying race for Europe’s team at the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland, giving Dean an important early result alongside the biggest title of his professional career.
