Jimmy Anderson Produces Masterclass as Lancashire Edge Past Derbyshire in Thrilling Finish
Veteran England bowler Jimmy Anderson dismantled Derbyshire with a devastating spell of 4 for 7, sealing a dramatic 29-run victory for Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Jimmy Anderson rolled back the years in spectacular fashion at Old Trafford on Monday, delivering a match-winning spell that reminded everyone why England remain so keen to keep him firing on all cylinders.

The 43-year-old seamer, bowling from the James Anderson End with all his customary economy, ripped through the Derbyshire middle order in the second innings, finishing with extraordinary figures of 4 for 7 from just 4.5 overs. His spell broke the game open at a crucial juncture and ultimately secured Lancashire a 29-run victory in a thriller that had the home dressing room celebrating with considerable gusto.

The drama had started early in the day when Ben Aitchison struck twice in the first over, catching Lancashire No 10 Mitchell Stanley still fastening his gloves on the way out to the middle. Derbyshire were set 138 to win, a target that felt achievable with a reasonable batting lineup intact. Caleb Jewell fell early, but from there it was a tense contest until Anderson began his second spell.

When Zak Chappell was run out attempting a shambolic single after Anderson had knocked the bails off, the outcome felt settled. Lancashire celebrated their second win of the season with the kind of energy befitting a contest that had hung in the balance until the very end.

On debut, Paul Coughlin marked his Lancashire bow with a complete performance: six wickets in the match, 64 runs with the bat, and a catch. It was an impressive introduction to first-team cricket for the new signing.

Across the county circuit, there was more to savour. Nottinghamshire, the defending champions, finally clicked into gear and claimed their first victory of the season, overcoming Glamorgan by 192 runs at Trent Bridge despite Asa Tribe's obdurate 85. Mason Crane dug in for two and a half hours to make 39 down the order, frustrating Glamorgan's chase.

Kyle Abbott was the star for Hampshire, closing out Yorkshire with a remarkable 10-wicket match haul. At Hove, Jack Leaning compiled 120 and Tom Price 70 to guide Sussex to their second win in two matches, quite a turnaround for a side that began the season on minus 12 points.

At The Oval, Rob Key watched Jamie Smith and Ollie Pope compile half-centuries for Surrey against Leicestershire on a flat pitch, while Ben Compton's 114 and help from the rain secured Kent a draw against Northamptonshire.
