Jansen takes five as South Africa bowl Australia out for 99 and enforce follow-on
Marco Jansen took 5-33 as Australia collapsed to 99 in the second Test in Gqeberha. South Africa enforced the follow-on after securing a 326-run first-innings lead.

South Africa dismissed Australia for 99 and enforced the follow-on on the fourth day of the second Test in Gqeberha, with Marco Jansen taking 5-33. According to BBC Sport, the collapse left the tourists 326 runs behind on first innings and gave South Africa an opportunity to level the series after their own difficult start with the bat.

Watch the highlights:

The hosts had been 110-6 early on day three before recovering to declare at 425-9. Captain Temba Bavuma made 179 and Jansen contributed 85, while Scott Boland finished with five wickets for 81 runs. That recovery provided the foundation for South Africa's bowlers to take control, turning a position of trouble into a substantial first-innings advantage.

Australia lost opener Nic Maddinson late on the third day, then surrendered their remaining nine wickets in fewer than 40 overs on day four. Steve Smith's 28 was the highest individual score, with nobody else making more than 14. Their largest partnership produced only 23 runs, and the total was their lowest in Tests since India dismissed them for 91 at Nagpur in 2023.

Jansen began his day's work by having nightwatchman Boland caught behind off his first delivery. He then trapped Travis Head lbw for 14 following a review. Marnus Labuschagne also made 14 before Simon Harmer caught him at slip off Anrich Nortje. Jansen subsequently removed Matt Renshaw and Alex Carey in one over before dismissing Beau Webster to complete his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Kagiso Rabada and Wiaan Mulder each took two wickets. Mulder bowled Smith, who received treatment to his neck during his 88-ball innings, before Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were dismissed within the next 11 deliveries. South Africa also had a fitness concern: BBC Sport reported that Nortje managed only 3.3 overs because of an apparent groin problem, leaving his further bowling involvement uncertain.

Bavuma consulted his bowlers before sending Australia back in. BBC Sport reported that Australia had last been required to follow on against India in Sydney in 2019, with the previous instance coming against England at Trent Bridge in 2005. The decision left South Africa pursuing victory, rather than a completed result, with Australia's second innings still to be settled.
