Jannik Sinner Reclaims World No. 1 Ranking with Monte Carlo Masters Victory Over Alcaraz
Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets at the Monte Carlo Masters to claim his third ATP 1000 title of the year and return to the top of the world rankings.

Jannik Sinner has reclaimed the world number one spot in men's tennis, delivering a composed performance to defeat Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(5), 6-3 in Sunday's Monte Carlo Masters final and capture his third ATP 1000 title of the season.

The Italian's victory marks his first triumph at the Monte Carlo Country Club, adding the principality's blue clay to a collection that already includes Indian Wells and Miami — the so-called "Sunshine Double" he completed last month. The 24-year-old becomes only the third player in the modern era, alongside Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, to win four consecutive ATP 1000 events.

Alcaraz, who had held the top ranking since March, started the stronger of the two finalists. The Spaniard broke first to establish a 2-0 lead and appeared on course for an opening set victory. However, Sinner — who struggled early with his first serve in breezy conditions — dug deep to break back immediately.

A topsy-turvy first set saw both players squander opportunities before Sinner eventually edged the tie-break 7-5, benefitting from an Alcaraz double-fault at a crucial moment. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Alcaraz fighting back from a break down only to hand the initiative back to his opponent, who closed out the contest in two hours and 15 minutes.

Sinner's winning run now stands at 17 consecutive matches, matching the longest streak of his career. He is the first male player since Djokovic in 2015 to capture the opening three ATP 1000 titles of a single season — a remarkable feat that underlines his dominance on hard courts this year.

Speaking on court afterward, Sinner was measured despite his obvious delight. "The result is amazing. Getting back to number one means a lot to me. I haven't done it before on this surface, so it means a lot to me."

Alcaraz will have little time to dwell on the defeat, with the clay-court season now in full swing and Roland Garros now just six weeks away.
