Jamieson Fires Closing 67 to End 14-Year DP World Tour Drought
Scott Jamieson ended an almost 14-year wait for his second DP World Tour title by winning the Nexo Championship in Scotland on Sunday. The 42-year-old closed with a five-under 67 at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, finishing at 11 under par and two shots clear of England's Matthew Jordan.
Watch the highlights:
The DP World Tour reported that Jamieson entered the decisive stretch behind overnight leader Shaun Norris but surged through the middle of his round. Birdies at the seventh and eighth began a run of four gains in five holes, moving the Scot into the outright lead as the contest shifted around the turn.
Jordan encountered trouble at the ninth, where an attempted escape from rough beside a dune led to a double bogey. Norris also lost ground after receiving a two-stroke penalty on the front nine. Tour officials ruled that he had breached Rule 8.1 by moving a divot from beneath his feet on the fifth fairway, improving conditions affecting his stroke.
Jamieson made birdies at the 10th and 11th before dropping a shot at the 13th. Jordan's birdie at the 12th had reduced the margin to one, but Jamieson responded with another birdie at the 14th to restore a two-shot advantage. His decisive recovery came at the 17th, where he saved par after finding a bunker in front of the green.
That save, combined with Jordan missing his own par putt, sent Jamieson to the final hole with a three-stroke cushion. He completed the tournament with a safe par. Jordan birdied the 18th to secure second place alone at nine under, while Andy Sullivan finished third at seven under after a closing 68.
According to the DP World Tour, the victory moved Jamieson from 135th to 42nd in the Race to Dubai rankings and secured his playing card for two more years. His previous tour victory came at the Nelson Mandela Championship in December 2012. Quim Vidal, Marcus Kinhult and Keita Nakajima shared fourth at six under, while Norris closed with a 76 and tied for seventh.
