Jamal Musiala receiving treatment after second on-field collapse
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala says he is receiving treatment for a neurological dysfunction after collapsing in two friendly matches within four days. The 23-year-old described the episodes as brief absence seizures and said he remains optimistic.

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala says he is receiving medical treatment after collapsing during a match for the second time in four days. BBC Sport reported that the 23-year-old has described the cause as a neurological dysfunction that can produce temporary absence seizures.

Watch the highlights:

The latest incident came during Bayern's 4-2 friendly victory at Heidenheim on Tuesday. Musiala had entered as a substitute and collapsed six minutes after coming off the bench. He appeared dazed while receiving attention and was then helped from the field.

Musiala had also collapsed during Bayern's 3-1 friendly win over RB Leipzig in Munich on Saturday. In a statement published on Instagram after the second episode, the Germany international said doctors had diagnosed brief, temporary and treatable absence seizures. He acknowledged that the incidents could look frightening while saying they had become part of his current daily life.

The midfielder said he is receiving excellent medical care and is optimistic about his condition. He also thanked Bayern, his family and his friends for their support. No timetable for his return to playing was specified in the reporting, and the precise course of his treatment was not detailed.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said after the Heidenheim match that the club already knew about Musiala's situation and was aware of what had happened. Eberl also indicated that Musiala would address the matter himself, which the player subsequently did through his social-media statement.

The episodes follow a season in which Musiala had already worked his way back from a major injury. He missed the first six months of the previous campaign after breaking his ankle at the 2025 Club World Cup, then returned during the second half of the season. He later started three of Germany's four matches at the 2026 World Cup. The latest medical issue now places the focus on his treatment, with neither Musiala nor Bayern announcing when he might next play.
