Jake Lehmann's Unbeaten 115 Keeps Hampshire Alive at Trent Bridge

Jake Lehmann made an unbeaten 115 to keep Hampshire in contention against Nottinghamshire on the second day of their County Championship Division One match at Trent Bridge. Hampshire closed on 267-7 in reply to Nottinghamshire’s 377, leaving the visitors 110 runs behind with three first-innings wickets remaining.

The ECB Reporters’ Network, carried by BBC Sport, reported that Lehmann reached his century from 160 balls and ended the day one run short of his best score in England. His innings contained 12 fours, according to the published scorecard, and lifted his season aggregate for Hampshire to 922 runs.

Nottinghamshire struck with the first ball of the day when Olly Stone had Felix Organ caught behind for six. Toby Albert and Nick Gubbins then took the score forward before both were dismissed leg before wicket in a four-ball span. Albert made 31, while Gubbins scored 35, leaving Hampshire on 114-3 at lunch after resuming the morning on 12 without loss.

Lehmann initially scored quickly, reaching 33 from 29 balls by lunch, but Hampshire lost momentum during the afternoon. Stone trapped Joe Weatherley leg before wicket for 25, while Fraser Sheat removed captain Ben Brown and 18-year-old Ben Mayes. The visitors slipped to 165-6 and went to tea at 190-6 as Nottinghamshire applied sustained pressure.

Scott Currie then provided the resistance Hampshire needed. He faced 143 balls for 35 and shared a seventh-wicket partnership of 97 with Lehmann across 38 overs. The stand carried Hampshire to 262 before Sheat bowled Currie late in the day. Sheat finished the session with 3-61, while Stone had 2-58.

Nottinghamshire had built their 377 on the opening day through Joe Clarke’s 105 and Liam Patterson-White’s 92. For Hampshire, Currie took 4-61 and Kyle Abbott returned 4-82. By the close of day two, Nottinghamshire held five bonus points to Hampshire’s four, but Lehmann’s innings and his long partnership with Currie had prevented the home side from taking complete control.
