Jak Jones beats Mark Selby to win British Open title

Jak Jones defeated four-time world champion Mark Selby 10-6 in the British Open final on Sunday to secure the second ranking title of his career. BBC Sport reported the Welshman's victory, while the tournament scoring record confirmed the result and the frame-by-frame sequence.

The best-of-19 final was level at 4-4 after an evenly divided opening session. Jones made breaks of 64 and 54 during that stretch, while Selby answered with runs of 139, 67 and 70. The match remained finely balanced when play resumed, with neither player able to establish control during the first eight frames.

Jones moved ahead by taking the ninth frame without reply, but Selby immediately restored parity with a century break. A 65 then put Jones back in front at 6-5, before the Welshman won a pivotal 12th frame 72-66 despite Selby making a break of 66. That gave Jones the first two-frame advantage of the evening session.

Selby reduced the deficit to 7-6 by winning the next frame 81-47. Jones responded decisively, compiling breaks of 53 and 62 to claim the following two frames and move within one of the title. He completed the victory in frame 16, winning it 71-61 to seal a 10-6 final score. The closing run meant Selby did not win another frame after cutting Jones's lead to one.

The title completed a demanding run through the closing stages for Jones. In the semi-finals, he beat world number two Judd Trump 6-3, making breaks of 95, 68, 59 and 52. Jones had led 3-1 before Trump recovered to 3-3, but the Welshman then won three consecutive frames to reach the final.

Selby had also advanced with a strong finish in his semi-final against Liam Highfield, taking three straight frames after the contest reached 3-3. In the final, however, Jones produced the stronger closing sequence. From 7-6, he won the last three frames to turn a narrow lead into a four-frame victory and add another ranking trophy to his career record.
