Jacob Ramsey Rescues Newcastle in 2-2 Draw With Bournemouth

Jacob Ramsey scored an 88th-minute equaliser as Newcastle United recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth at St James' Park on Saturday. The Guardian reported that the substitute struck low into the bottom corner after the visitors failed to clear Jacob Murphy's cross, denying Bournemouth their first Premier League win under manager Marco Rose.

Bournemouth went ahead in the ninth minute after Alex Scott advanced into the penalty area and saw his shot deflected into Marcus Tavernier's path. Tavernier reacted quickly to beat Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek. Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle argued that Adrien Truffert had fouled Anthony Elanga during the buildup, but a video assistant referee review found no offence and the goal stood.

The visitors continued to pressure a Newcastle side that repeatedly surrendered possession. Justin Kluivert then hit a powerful long-range effort that came back off a combination of the post and Hornicek before falling to Scott. His subsequent cross-shot was diverted beyond the goalkeeper by Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw for an own goal, doubling Bournemouth's advantage.

Newcastle replied less than two minutes later. Harvey Barnes cut in from the left and curled a shot past Djordje Petrovic to reduce the deficit before half-time. The goal gave the home side a route back into a match in which Bournemouth had created several opportunities and had threatened to build a more decisive lead.

Jaissle's team improved after the interval and came close when Joe Willock sent a glancing header narrowly wide following a Yoane Wissa cross and an Elanga flick. The Newcastle manager also handed a debut to Matias Fernandez-Pardo, a recent £51 million signing from Lille, introducing him shortly after the hour in a role behind Wissa.

Bournemouth resisted until the closing stages, but could not protect their advantage. When Murphy's delivery was not cleared in the 88th minute, Ramsey met the loose ball with a clean finish to secure a point. The result also extended Newcastle's run without a Premier League victory over Bournemouth to nine meetings, while Rose's side were again left to reflect on a lead that slipped away.
