Isidor's 75th-minute strike earns Sunderland 1-0 win over Fulham

Wilson Isidor scored a 75th-minute winner as Sunderland beat Fulham 1-0 at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, according to The Guardian's match report. The substitute converted a low delivery from fellow replacement Habib Diarra to give Regis Le Bris's side their first Premier League victory of the season and leave Fulham without a point.

The opening half produced few clear chances. Sunderland held more of the possession but struggled to test Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno, while the visitors set up in a cautious shape and looked for counterattacking opportunities. Fulham's best opening before halftime came when Alex Iwobi created a chance for Josh King, whose attempt from a difficult angle was miscued. Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs was otherwise largely untroubled.

Sunderland defender Nordi Mukiele made a decisive intervention early in the second half. With Gonzalo Garcia moving toward goal after Sander Berge's through ball, Mukiele recovered with a sliding challenge that stopped the Fulham forward from getting a near-certain scoring opportunity. Garcia had scored twice in his first two matches since joining Fulham from Real Madrid, but Sunderland's defense kept him off the scoresheet.

Le Bris then introduced Diarra and Isidor in place of Nilson Angulo and Brian Brobbey. The changes quickly sharpened Sunderland's pressing and attacking threat. Isidor initially missed a major opportunity when Enzo Le Fee sent a first-time ball across the goalmouth, with the forward striking the base of the post from close range.

Isidor responded moments later. Diarra drove a low ball across the penalty area and Isidor met it with a powerful finish beyond Leno. Diarra's involvement ended soon afterward when an injury forced him off for Chris Rigg, but the goal proved enough as Sunderland protected their advantage through the closing stages.

The Guardian reported that the result ended Sunderland's 17-year wait for a Premier League home win against Fulham. Le Bris acknowledged afterward that his team had not created enough opportunities, while also crediting its balance in managing transitions and highlighting the impact of Diarra and Isidor. Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa said Sunderland had been better for long periods and identified his side's energy, attitude and mentality as areas needing improvement.
