Isaac Price Double Powers West Brom Past Burnley
Isaac Price drove West Bromwich Albion to a 3-1 comeback victory over Burnley at the Hawthorns on Sunday, scoring twice after supplying the chance for Harry Whitwell's equaliser. The result gave Albion two wins from their opening two Championship matches and three consecutive victories in all competitions, PA Media reported.
Watch the highlights:
Burnley went ahead in the eighth minute through a Callum Styles own goal. Jacob Bruun Larsen delivered the cross, and Styles made contact while trying to stop Oliver Sonne from reaching the ball, only for it to strike his heel and go into the net. Albion appealed for a foul by Hannibal Mejbri on Felix Horn Myhre much earlier in the move, but play continued and the goal stood.
West Brom responded 10 minutes later. Price sent in a cross, Jimmy-Jay Morgan flicked it on, and Whitwell finished low from 12 yards after Bashir Humphreys was unable to clear. It was the 20-year-old Whitwell's first league goal for Albion. Burnley then came close to regaining the lead when Bruun Larsen met a Marcus Edwards cross and hit the foot of the post.
The home side took control immediately after halftime. In the 46th minute, Price collected a loose ball and curled his shot into the far corner beyond Max Weiss, who had moved off his line. The Northern Ireland international's finish put West Brom ahead for the first time and set the direction for a dominant second-half display.
Burnley made three substitutions in the 57th minute, introducing Ugo Raghouber, Zeki Amdouni and Dastan Satpayev. Amdouni later directed a curling 20-yard attempt at West Brom goalkeeper Max O'Leary, but the visitors could not find an equaliser. Burnley were without injured striker Zian Flemming amid reported transfer speculation, according to PA Media.
Price completed the scoring from the penalty spot after Humphreys brought down Whitwell. He struck low to Weiss's right as the goalkeeper went the other way, sealing the points and his two-goal performance. The win left West Brom second in the early Championship table, behind Millwall on goal difference, while Burnley were beaten by Albion's second-half surge.
