Ireland Claim Two Final-Day Silvers at World Rowing Championships

Ireland ended the 2026 World Rowing Championships with two silver medals on the final day of racing at the Bosbaan in Amsterdam. BBC Sport reported that Konan Pazzaia and Margaret Cremen finished second in the mixed double sculls, while Fiona Murtagh took silver in the women’s single sculls. The closing results gave Ireland one gold and two silvers across the championships.

Pazzaia and Cremen placed behind the Netherlands in the mixed double final after earlier finishing third in their double sculls semi-final on Sunday. Their medal gave Cremen a second podium finish of the event, following her victory with Zoe Hyde in the women’s double sculls on Friday. That earlier success accounted for Ireland’s gold medal in Amsterdam.

The mixed double silver also added to Pazzaia’s record in international sculling. The Swiss-born rower, whose mother was born in Belfast, entered Ireland’s high-performance pathway while studying Biological Sciences at Queen’s University Belfast. He won under-23 world bronze in the double sculls in 2022 and the under-23 world title in the same event in 2023.

Murtagh entered the women’s single sculls final as the reigning world champion but was beaten by Great Britain’s Lauren Henry. BBC Sport described the outcome as a reversal of the previous year’s result between the two rowers. Olympic champion Karolien Florijn of the Netherlands finished third to complete the podium.

Henry’s victory contributed to Great Britain finishing fifth in the medal standings. Hannah Scott and Finnola Stratton also earned silver for Britain in the women’s quad sculls. The British team completed the championships with two gold medals, four silvers and two bronzes, according to the BBC report.

Ireland’s final-day medals placed the team seventh overall with three medals. The Netherlands led the standings on home water, collecting four golds, three silvers and one bronze. For Ireland, the two Sunday silvers added depth to a campaign already highlighted by Cremen and Hyde’s women’s double sculls title, bringing the country’s championship program to a close with medals in three events.
