Ireland beat Israel 3-0 with three goals in 11 minutes

Republic of Ireland beat Israel 3-0 in Debrecen on Sunday, September 27, with Troy Parrott, Adam Idah and Jack Moylan scoring before the interval in their Nations League B Group 3 match. The result followed Ireland's 1-0 defeat away to Kosovo in their opening fixture, according to The Irish Times.

Parrott broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, and Idah doubled the advantage just two minutes later after receiving a pass from Moylan. Moylan then added the third in the 25th minute. Ireland therefore scored all three goals within an 11-minute spell, leaving Israel facing a substantial deficit well before half-time.

Heimir Hallgrimsson had changed his starting side after the Kosovo loss. The Irish Times reported that Liam Kitching replaced John Egan, Ryan Manning came in for Liam Scales and Conor Coventry was selected ahead of Jason Knight in midfield. Parrott and Idah started in attack, with Moylan operating behind them.

The football took place against the backdrop of opposition to the fixture over the war in Gaza. AFP reported that Ireland's players wore black armbands and lowered their heads during Israel's national anthem. The customary handshakes and exchange of pennants did not take place before kick-off at the sparsely attended stadium in Hungary, where Israel were the designated home team.

According to AFP, the Irish players had voted overwhelmingly to play despite calls for a boycott. Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu withdrew from both meetings with Israel, citing the killing of innocent people as his reason for not participating. The players who took the field also marked their goals symbolically: Parrott made a heart gesture, while Moylan kissed his Ireland badge and black armband.

Ireland's next scheduled match is against Austria at the Aviva Stadium on October 1, before the return meeting with Israel on October 4. The Football Association of Ireland's published schedule places that second fixture at the TSC Arena in Backa Topola, Serbia, behind closed doors. The association said operational challenges prompted its decision to move the home fixture to neutral territory.
