Parrott, Idah and Moylan fire Republic of Ireland to 3-0 win over Israel

Republic of Ireland beat Israel 3-0 in their Nations League Group B3 match in Debrecen, Hungary, on Sunday, September 27. Troy Parrott, Adam Idah and Jack Moylan scored before the interval, giving Heimir Hallgrimsson's side a victory after their 1-0 defeat in Kosovo on Thursday, according to The Irish Times' match report.

Parrott opened the scoring in the 14th minute, and Idah doubled the lead two minutes later after receiving a pass from Moylan. The provider then became a scorer himself in the 25th minute. All three goals arrived in an 11-minute spell, leaving Israel facing a three-goal deficit with much of the first half still to play.

Hallgrimsson had changed several parts of his starting side following the Kosovo loss. Liam Kitching came in for John Egan, Ryan Manning replaced Liam Scales and Conor Coventry was selected ahead of Jason Knight in midfield, The Irish Times reported. Parrott and Idah started, while Chiedozie Ogbene and Finn Azaz were left out of the starting line-up.

The result came after a lengthy squad meeting on Saturday, when Ireland's players voted to go ahead with the fixture despite calls for a boycott over the Israel-Gaza war. BBC Sport reported that the players wore black armbands, bowed their heads during Israel's anthem and did not exchange pre-match handshakes. The captains also did not exchange pennants.

FAI chief executive David Courell said the armbands recognised all lives lost in the conflict, according to the BBC. Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu withdrew from the squad on Saturday, saying he could not participate in this match or the return fixture. Hallgrimsson subsequently confirmed that Bazunu would be included for Thursday's game against Austria in Dublin, but not the second Israel match.

Hallgrimsson told RTE that his players' actions had drawn international attention to the issue, BBC Sport reported. He also said players' views on the fixture had not determined his team selection. Ireland's next meeting with Israel is scheduled for October 4 in Backa Topola, Serbia, with both fixtures being staged at neutral venues.
