Inter Rally From Two Goals Down to Stun Napoli in Stoppage Time
Inter produced a dramatic second-half comeback to beat Napoli 3-2 at home on Saturday, with Lautaro Martinez scoring the decisive goal in the 91st minute. According to reporting by Guardian Sport and agencies, the result extended the Serie A champions' winning start to the new league campaign and maintained their 100 percent record.
Watch the highlights:
The contest was goalless at halftime before Napoli took control in a rapid burst after the restart. Matteo Politano opened the scoring in the 50th minute, converting after a rebound. Three minutes later, Rasmus Hojlund collected a pass from Giovanni di Lorenzo and struck from the edge of the penalty area to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.
Inter's response began almost immediately. Martinez reduced the deficit three minutes after Hojlund's goal with a clinical finish, bringing the home side back into the match. Napoli retained their lead for much of the remaining half, but Inter continued to apply pressure as the game moved into its closing stages.
Marcus Thuram made it 2-2 with eight minutes of regulation time remaining. He headed in from a Carlos Augusto pass, completing Inter's recovery from the two-goal deficit and setting up a frantic finish in which both teams created opportunities to claim the victory. The match remained open as play shifted between the two penalty areas.
Inter ultimately converted their late momentum into all three points. From a corner in the first minute of stoppage time, Martinez reached the ball at the back post and turned it into the net. His second goal of the match completed the comeback and denied Napoli a victory that had appeared within reach after their early second-half surge.
The win keeps Inter's perfect record intact at the start of their Serie A title defence. Napoli's two goals in three minutes had put the champions under severe pressure, but Inter answered with three goals of their own over the final 35 minutes, capped by Martinez's stoppage-time intervention in front of the home support.
