Hufanga seals Broncos comeback as Commanders end Seahawks winning streak

Talanoa Hufanga intercepted Matt Stafford twice in the closing stages as the Denver Broncos recovered from a 16-0 half-time deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Rams 30-26 on Sunday. BBC Sport reported that the comeback was part of an unusually close NFL programme: 12 of the day's 14 games finished with margins of eight points or fewer, matching the league record for one-score games in a day.

Denver erased the Rams' advantage in the third quarter before the teams exchanged the lead three times in the final five minutes. Hufanga provided the first of those swings, taking an interception 66 yards for a touchdown. Stafford answered by moving Los Angeles downfield in little more than a minute, with Konata Mumpfield scoring on a 48-yard touchdown reception.

Bo Nix then finished another lengthy Denver possession by reaching into the end zone to restore the home team's lead. Stafford had 47 seconds to respond and brought the Rams within 19 yards of a winning touchdown. With two seconds remaining, however, Hufanga collected his second interception to settle a contest between two teams beaten in last season's conference championship games.

The defending Super Bowl champions also lost, with the Washington Commanders beating the Seattle Seahawks 33-31. Marcus Mariota, playing after Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow the previous week, threw three touchdown passes as Washington built a 24-10 advantage. Seattle recovered to level in the fourth quarter before Kain Medrano returned Sam Darnold's second interception 50 yards for the decisive touchdown, ending the Seahawks' 12-game winning streak.

Baltimore needed a final-play field goal to beat Dallas 34-31 in the NFL's first game in Rio de Janeiro. After the Cowboys drew level with seven seconds left, Lamar Jackson completed a 27-yard pass and Tyler Loop converted from 56 yards as time expired at the Maracana. The result left all four AFC North teams at 2-1.

Five teams remained unbeaten after Sunday's games: Buffalo, Kansas City, San Francisco, Minnesota and Las Vegas. The Raiders' 35-27 comeback victory at New Orleans took them to 3-0, already equalling their win total from last season. Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes for the third consecutive game as Las Vegas overturned a 27-16 deficit.
