Hovland and Gerard Share Tour Championship Lead After Round Two

Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard will share the lead heading into the weekend at the Tour Championship after both reached 10 under in Atlanta. BBC Sport reported that the pair finished the second round one stroke ahead of Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup in the PGA Tour's season-ending event.

Hovland, the 2023 FedEx Cup champion, closed with a birdie to complete a four-under 66. His work on the greens remained a central part of his performance; the Norwegian was ranked first in strokes gained putting through the opening two rounds. The final-hole gain allowed him to join Gerard after the American had established the clubhouse target.

Gerard posted a five-under 65, highlighted by a 78-foot birdie putt on the seventh green. That long-range conversion helped him set the pace at 10 under before Hovland drew level later in the day. Morikawa and Gotterup ended the round together at nine under, keeping four players within a single shot of the lead.

Scottie Scheffler recovered from two early bogeys to shoot 67 and move to eight under, two strokes behind the leaders. He shares that position with Cameron Young, who produced the lowest round among the leading contenders. Young's 62 included seven birdies and an eagle at the par-five 18th.

Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick are among a group at seven under, three shots off the lead. Rose recorded a bogey-free 65, while Fitzpatrick also remained firmly in contention for the tournament's $10 million prize. Adam Scott and Ludvig Aberg were also listed at seven under after the second round.

Rory McIlroy faces a larger weekend deficit after an uneven round left him tied for 23rd at three under. He birdied his opening hole but made a double bogey at the third, where he missed the green and needed multiple attempts to chip onto the putting surface. Two birdies over his final three holes limited the damage. Robert MacIntyre endured a six-over 76 and finished the day at three over after three consecutive bogeys and a double bogey at the par-three 15th.
