Holland and Mike Take Four Each as Leicestershire Build 78-Run Lead
Ian Holland and Ben Mike shared eight wickets as Leicestershire gained control against Glamorgan at Grace Road. The hosts ended day two on 79-2, leading by 78 runs.

Leicestershire captain Ian Holland and all-rounder Ben Mike shared eight wickets to put their side in a promising position against Glamorgan after a busy second day at Grace Road. The BBC reported that 15 wickets fell as the hosts closed on 79-2 in their second innings, a lead of 78 runs.

Watch the highlights:

Holland returned 4-30, his best bowling figures of the summer, while Mike took 4-38 as Glamorgan were dismissed for 152. That gave the visitors a first-innings advantage of only one run after Leicestershire had been bowled out for 151 earlier in the day.

The hosts resumed their first innings on 113-7 and added 38 before losing their remaining wickets in the 63rd over. Glamorgan’s seamers continued the effective work they had begun on the opening day, with Ray Toole finishing with 3-48, Timm van der Gugten taking 2-51 and Andy Gorvin claiming 2-18.

Leicestershire then seized control with the ball, reducing Glamorgan to 55-6 before Mason Crane led a recovery. Crane top-scored with 44, but Holland and Mike ensured the visitors could establish only the narrowest of leads in a low-scoring Division One contest.

In their second innings, Leicestershire lost Rishi Patel after he made 26 from 23 balls, an attacking contribution that included two sixes. Rehan Ahmed was then bowled by Toole for 15. Sheridon Gumbs remained unbeaten on 33 at stumps after beginning patiently and expanding his range of shots as the innings developed.

The result left Leicestershire with eight second-innings wickets intact at the halfway stage of the match. They are seeking points to strengthen their attempt to avoid relegation with six games remaining in a tightly contested Division One season. Both teams collected three points from the match’s first two days, while the movement and uneven bounce available to the bowlers kept the contest open heading into day three. Holland said a lead would be crucial in such a low-scoring game and judged Leicestershire to be in a decent position at stumps.
