Hill Leads Yorkshire to 263 in Rain-Hit Leicestershire Match

George Hill made 62 as Yorkshire completed a first-innings total of 263 against Leicestershire during a heavily disrupted second day of their County Championship Division One match at Scarborough. BBC Sport, carrying a report from the ECB Reporters' Network, said Leicestershire reached 12 without loss in reply before rain ended play for the day.

The weather dictated the schedule from the outset. Overnight rain left a wet outfield and delayed the start until 14:10 BST. Further rain prevented any play after 16:35, meaning only 24.5 overs were possible across the day. Yorkshire had resumed on 144-5 and were all out by tea.

Leicestershire captain Ian Holland struck almost immediately once play began. After opening with a no-ball, he had James Wharton caught behind with his second legitimate delivery. Wharton departed for 70 without adding to his overnight score, leaving Yorkshire 146-6. Wicketkeeper Jonny Tattersall's catch was his fifth of the innings.

Hill then added 56 for the seventh wicket with Dom Bess, who made 21 before being dismissed by left-arm quick Josh Hull. Hull also removed Ben Coad as Leicestershire continued to work through the lower order. With partners running out, Hill increased the tempo and reached his half-century from 64 balls. It was his fourth fifty of the season.

Ben Cliff supplied a brisk contribution alongside Hill, striking three consecutive boundaries from Rehan Ahmed before being bowled for 22 from the following delivery. Hill and Cliff added 53 from 29 balls, taking Yorkshire to 263-9 in the 76th over. Hill was the final batter out, with Hull completing figures of 3-57 from 12 overs.

Leicestershire's openers then negotiated fewer than four overs before the weather intervened again. The visitors ended on 12-0 and took three points from the match to Yorkshire's one at this stage. With so much time already lost, the prospect of either side forcing a result will depend on the conditions and available playing time over the remaining two days.
