Higgins and Murphy level at 4-4 after opening session of World Championship semi-final

John Higgins staged a fightback to finish the opening session of his World Championship semi-final against Shaun Murphy all square at 4-4.

The veteran Scotsman recovered from a sluggish start to restore parity in the best-of-33 frames match at the Crucible Theatre. Higgins, a four-time world champion, showed his experience to dig deep and split the first eight frames with his English opponent.

Murphy had looked composed early on but was unable to maintain his advantage as Higgins battled his way back into the contest. Neither player managed to establish a decisive lead during the opening session.

The match resumes for the remaining frames, with the winner progressing to the final. Higgins will be aiming to reach the world final for the 12th time in his distinguished career.
