Hibernian sign Rabbi Matondo as Reedijk makes first addition
Rabbi Matondo has signed for Hibernian until the end of the 2026-27 season, with an option for another year. The Wales winger becomes Marink Reedijk’s first signing, subject to clearance checks.

Hibernian have announced the signing of Wales winger Rabbi Matondo on a permanent contract running to the end of the 2026-27 season, with the club holding an option for another year. The club said the move remains subject to Scottish FA and international clearance checks after the 26-year-old completed a successful trial.

Watch the highlights:

BBC Sport reported that Matondo is the first player signed by Marink Reedijk since the manager replaced David Gray last month. His arrival follows a brief stay at Norwegian club Brann, which he left in August after five months. He had been training with Hibs before the Edinburgh club committed to a deal.

Reedijk said Matondo impressed him during the squad’s visit to La Manga and praised the way he approached the trial. In Hibernian’s announcement, the manager highlighted the winger’s speed and ability to attack from wide positions, as well as his readiness to adapt. The club said Matondo can play on either flank, adding another option to its attack.

Matondo returns to Scottish football having made 70 appearances for Rangers during a spell of almost four years, according to BBC Sport. Roughly two-thirds of those appearances were in the Premiership. He scored eight goals for Rangers, seven in the top division, with Hibernian among the teams he scored against. His time at Ibrox also included a loan to Hannover.

His earlier career took him from the youth systems at Cardiff City and Manchester City to Schalke in 2019, Hibernian said. Loan spells at Stoke City and Cercle Brugge followed before he joined Rangers in summer 2022. Sporting director Malky Mackay said the trial allowed Hibs to assess him closely and praised how he had integrated with the players.

At international level, BBC Sport reported that Matondo has won 15 Wales caps, with his most recent appearance coming in 2025. That year also brought his only senior international goal to date, in a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan. He now returns to the Premiership with a contract for the remainder of the campaign and a possible longer stay at Easter Road.
