Hibernian Take Gent Tie Back to Easter Road After Goalless Draw
Hibernian returned from Belgium with their Conference League playoff level after earning a 0-0 first-leg draw against Gent on Thursday. BBC Sport reported that David Gray’s side delivered a disciplined defensive performance at the Planet Group Arena, keeping the tie open before next week’s return match at Easter Road.

The visitors also had the clearest opportunity to score. Hibs were awarded a penalty after Warren O’Hora was fouled, but Gent goalkeeper and captain Davy Roef saved Owen Elding’s attempt. The 20-year-old continued to contribute after the miss as Hibernian settled into the contest.
Gent controlled much of the possession and applied early pressure, but Hibs prevented that territorial advantage from turning into clear chances. Goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger was not required to make a significant save, according to BBC Sport, as the back line of O’Hora, Jason Kerr and Jordan Obita protected the penalty area.
The result gave Hibernian a third straight clean sheet. Gray highlighted his players’ courage, physical performance and adherence to the game plan, while also acknowledging that they did not offer enough attacking threat. He reserved particular praise for central midfielders Josh Mulligan and Miguel Chaiwa for their work in limiting Gent.
Gent entered the fixture unbeaten in the early part of their Belgian Pro League campaign and had eliminated Gothenburg to reach the playoff. Hibs arrived after an away victory over Shkendija in North Macedonia, and their composed showing in Belgium extended a run of controlled European performances on the road.
The second leg will determine whether Hibernian reach the league phase of European competition for the first time. Gray cautioned that the club has achieved nothing yet, with the contest still capable of requiring extra time or penalties. The draw nevertheless gives Hibs the opportunity to settle the playoff at home after restricting Gent throughout the opening 90 minutes.
